Rizal Park and Shrine
The farm where Jose Rizal spent four years of exile, from 1892 to 1896, kept as a park on a hilly peninsula that faces Dapitan Bay. It is about one kilometre northwest of the city proper, in Barangay Talisay.
The Spanish authorities sent Rizal here after they accused him of sedition in Manila. He bought the first 10 hectares with money from a lottery bet he won with the Spanish governor of Dapitan, and his mother and sisters later came from Calamba to live with him. The park opened in 1940 with those 10 hectares and now covers 439 hectares.
