Tagbilaran Cathedral
The seat of the Diocese of Tagbilaran, which covers the western half of Bohol. Jesuit missionaries founded the parish in 1595, one of six in Bohol, and the Augustinian Recollects took it over in 1768. Fire destroyed the first church in 1798. The present building was rebuilt and enlarged between 1839 and 1855, and the bell tower went up from 1884 to 1888. The stained glass windows were installed between 1991 and 1997, and the 2013 Bohol earthquake forced major work inside and out, including the ceiling paintings.
The cathedral parish is dedicated to Saint Joseph the Worker and is also a diocesan shrine. It stands in the city poblacion and carries a historical marker that the National Historical Commission installed in 1953.
