Magellan's Cross
A wooden cross in a stone kiosk, marking where the first Cebuanos were baptised in 1521. Magellan's men planted it when the first voyage around the world reached Cebu on 21 April 1521. In 1835 Bishop Santos Gómez Marañon had the cross encased in hollow tindalo wood, because devotees were taking it home chip by chip, and he restored the kiosk that stands today.
The kiosk is on Plaza Sugbo, between the Cebu City Hall and the Basilica del Santo Niño. It is a declared National Cultural Treasure, together with the basilica's church and convent.
