Fort
Fort San Pedro
The oldest and smallest Spanish fort in the country, now a walled garden by the pier. Legazpi's men built the first fort here of wood soon after they landed, and it became the core of the first Spanish settlement in the islands. A stone fort replaced it in the early 17th century, to hold off Muslim raiders, and the triangular bastion fort standing today dates from 1738. Filipino revolutionaries took it at the end of the 19th century and held it as a stronghold.
The fort stands in Plaza Independencia, near the pier, and holds a military museum.
