About Region VIII (Eastern Visayas)
Eastern Visayas is Samar, Leyte and Biliran, six provinces on the side of the country that faces the Pacific and takes the typhoons first. Tacloban is the regional centre and the city Yolanda hit hardest in 2013, and parts of the coast are still rebuilding. It is also where MacArthur waded ashore at Palo in 1944, which Leyte has never once let anybody forget.
