San Juanico Bridge
The road bridge between Samar and Leyte, 2.16 kilometres long across the San Juanico Strait. It carries the Pan-Philippine Highway from Santa Rita on the Samar side over to the city of Tacloban.
Most of that length is a steel girder viaduct on reinforced concrete piers, with an arch-shaped truss over the main span. It was built with Japanese loans under President Ferdinand Marcos and opened in 1973 as the longest bridge in the country, a title it held until the Candaba Viaduct passed it in 1976. It is now the third longest Philippine bridge over seawater, after the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway and the Panguil Bay Bridge.
