A street festival of masked dancers, held every year on the fourth Sunday of October. The masks give the festival its name: Pista sang Maskara in Hiligaynon. The smiling faces on them are why Bacolod is called the City of Smiles.

The city started the festival in 1980, a year of very low sugar prices and of the sinking of the inter-island vessel MV Don Juan, which carried many Negrenses. Dance groups from schools and from barangays parade through the streets and then perform on a stage. For several nights before the highlight weekend, the Electric MassKara sends dancers in neon and LED lights down the Lacson Strip, one kilometre of band stages, souvenir stands, exotic car displays and roadside bars. The other festival sites are the Bacolod Public Plaza and the Bacolod City Government Center.

Where it is

No pin for this one: a fiesta fills a whole town, so the site keeps no false point. The map below is Bacolod City itself.

Say in the thread where the procession starts and an editor can set the pin.
