Kalibo Cathedral
The seat of the Diocese of Kalibo, in the downtown and close to the Aklan River, and the oldest place of worship in the province. It carries two other names: the Cathedral Parish of Saint John the Baptist, and the Diocesan Shrine of the Santo Nino de Kalibo.
The Augustinians founded the mission in 1581, and the present brick church went up after the town moved to this site in 1804. National artist Leandro V. Locsin designed the building as it stands now, a modern church that keeps some lines of the post-war one. Saint John the Baptist is the patron, but the image people come for is the Santo Nino, honoured every January in the Ati-atihan.
