The old commercial street of Spanish and art deco buildings, now restored, running through the downtown. Its official name is J. M. Basa Street, and it was the city's main shopping centre for more than a century. The buildings along it are neoclassical, beaux-arts and art deco.

The heritage zone that grew out of the street now covers Aldeguer, Mapa, Ortiz, Muelle Loney, Solis, Rizal and Iznart as well, the whole of what Ilonggos call the old downtown. J. M. Basa carries the name of Jose Maria Basa, a businessman and propagandist who was close to Jose Rizal.
