About Santiago City

Under the Spanish this was Carig. Santiago now stands where southwestern Isabela meets Quirino, an independent city that no provincial government runs, and the traffic heading into the plains of the Cagayan Valley passes through it. Ilocano, Ibanag and Gaddang are all spoken here, which is normal for this part of the valley and surprises visitors anyway.
