Villa Escudero
A working coconut plantation of 800 hectares that has taken guests since 1981. The estate runs village tours and a museum tour, and it serves meals and rents rooms. It lies in Tiaong, on the Quezon side of the provincial line, 10 kilometres south of San Pablo City in Laguna.
Lunch is served at tables set in the shallow water below the spillway of the Labasin dam, which Arsenio Escudero built as the first working hydroelectric plant in the country. A carabao cart carries visitors in, and a dance show choreographed by Ramon Obusan runs with live music. The museum, housed in the plantation church since 1987, holds the family collection: Chinese porcelain, religious artefacts, clothes worn by Philippine presidents, war relics and letters from Jose Rizal. Bamboo rafts on Labasin Lake come with the day tour.
