Urbiztondo Beach
The surf beach behind the province's tourism boom, in Barangay Urbiztondo in San Juan. Surfers were already here when, from the mid-2000s to the early 2010s, new owners began opening art hostels and coffee shops in San Juan and in Agoo.
The Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway opened in stages over the same years and put the coast within reach of Metro Manila. Twitter and Instagram spread the word, San Juan became a backpacker destination, and people began to call the province ElYu.
