About La Union
San Juan turned a break called Monaliza into the surf town of the north, and half of Manila now spends long weekends in what it insists on calling Elyu. La Union is a narrow coastal province 273 kilometres from Metro Manila and only 57 from Baguio, which explains the weekend traffic. San Fernando City is the capital and the regional centre for Ilocos.
