Rizal Park
The park around the monument to José Rizal, where he was executed in 1896. It covers 58 hectares in Ermita, next to Intramuros and facing the eastern shore of Manila Bay. Rizal's remains lie in the stone base of the monument, which holds a bronze figure of him with his two novels, standing before an obelisk.
Marines guard the monument, and the changing of the guard has become a daily ceremony. About 100 metres north-northwest of it, life-size dioramas mark the exact spot where Rizal was shot.
