Pasig Cathedral
The seat of the bishop of Pasig and one of the oldest structures in the city, on Plaza Rizal in Barangay Malinao. Augustinian missionaries founded the parish on July 2, 1573, the day the town itself was founded. It was first consecrated to the Visitation of Our Lady, and from 1587 to the Immaculate Conception. The church became a cathedral in 2003, when the Diocese of Pasig was created.
British troops made the church their headquarters during the occupation of Manila from 1762 to 1764 and watched for the Spanish from its belfry. A seven-year restoration ended in March 2022 and added paintings to the ceiling. At the centre of the main retablo stands La Inmaculada Concepción de Pasig, in a golden-yellow gown and a blue cloak, on a crescent moon and a dragon biting an apple. The image was crowned in December 2008.
