The oldest church in Quezon City, built in 1590, and one of the oldest in the country. It stands in the San Francisco del Monte district and carries the name of Pedro Bautista, the Spanish missionary from Ávila who founded it and was one of 26 Christians put to death in Japan in 1597. The Franciscans run the parish, which covers six barangays.
The present stone church was finished in 1699, after the 1645 earthquake left the earlier one in ruins for 39 years. It was built in the California Mission style, and four niches on the facade hold the Four Evangelists. A new nave was added in 1969, so the old church now serves as the sanctuary and keeps three Baroque altarpieces. A life-size image of Saint Pedro Bautista stands in the middle one, with Our Lady of Monticelli above him. The church became a minor basilica in 2020.
