Inaul, the handwoven Maguindanaon cloth that a malong is cut from, comes from this half of the old province, and the weaving towns still work to order. Maguindanao split in two in 2022, and the western piece keeps Datu Odin Sinsuat, a municipality rather than a city, as its capital. Cotabato City sits in the middle of it all and is grouped with the province only for Congress.
