The widest and most navigable river in Mindanao. People who live along its banks honour their patroness Senora Santa Ana (Saint Anne) every last Sunday of July, in the Abayan festival.

The old Ramon Magsaysay Bridge crosses the river in the city, an arched steel bridge from the early 1960s. For years it was the only road link between the city and the rest of Mindanao, until a newer bridge opened on the south side. It joins the main urban centre to the eastern suburbs of Baan and Ampayon.
