Balangay Shrine Museum
A dig site kept as a museum, built over the grave of Balangay 1, a wooden boat dated to 320 AD. The balangays are plank-built and edge-pegged, and they average 15 metres long and 3 metres wide across the beam. Butuan was a port city when they sailed and still is one, and the boats are now the symbol of the city.
Nine balangays have been found at Ambangan in Barangay Libertad. Three are out of the ground and the rest stay where they were found. A group called Kaya ng Pinoy built new balangays and has sailed them around Southeast Asia, a project they call the Balangay Voyage.
