About Butuan City

Butuan was the seat of a rajahnate before the Spanish arrived, and the balangay boats dug out of its riverbanks are the oldest watercraft ever found in the country. Today it is the regional centre of Caraga and its most populous city. It is also the de facto capital of Agusan del Norte while running a government of its own, which nobody in Mindanao finds strange.
