Park
A wooded hill at a bend in the Masao River, above Butuan Bay and the ground where ancient Butuan stood. Many hold it to be the place where Magellan and his men said the first Catholic Mass on Philippine soil and set up a cross, after he landed at Mazaua on March 31, 1521. The Spanish chronicler Pigafetta wrote that this happened in the afternoon of that day, after the Easter Mass of the same morning, and that two Butuanon brother kings were there.
The hill is now a tree park and a clonal nursery, thick with the native Hadlayati tree and set among fishponds.
