Lake Leonard
A small freshwater crater lake on Mount Leonard, a stratovolcano also known as Leonard Kniaseff. The mountain stands in the Leonard Mountain Range, 60 kilometres northeast of Davao City.
The lake fills a caldera left when one of the biggest lava domes in the area collapsed. Solfataras (fumaroles that give off sulfuric gases) still work on the southwest rim, and there are hot springs in the Amacan-Gopod thermal area to the south. Philippine crocodiles live in the lake, and the population is endangered. Silt from road building, logging and shifting cultivation on the slopes above has damaged the shore, and mine tailings go into the water.
