Naval Cathedral
The seat of the Diocese of Naval, and a church of the 20th century rather than the Spanish period. Its full name is Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral.
The parish began in 1860 under the name Bagasumbul. A typhoon destroyed the first church in 1912, the church that replaced it got a new facade in 1950, and the building you see now went up in 1965. It became a cathedral in 1988, when the Diocese of Naval was founded to cover Biliran and the far northwest of Leyte. It stands in Naval, the capital of the province, which sits on the west coast of the island and holds more people than any other town here.
