Mount Biliran
An active volcano that formed the island the whole province stands on. It is a complex volcano of the solfataric type.
The only known historical activity was a phreatic eruption at a thermal area on 26 September 1939, which left ash up to 6.35 centimetres thick at Caibiran and the areas beside it. Five active solfatara fields remain, one of them on the west side of Mount Giron. The interior of the island is mountainous and the coast is narrow, with wide plains only at Naval and Caibiran. The island lies less than a kilometre north of Leyte. A bridge and causeway over Poro Island connect the two at the town of Biliran, which is the way in by road.
