Cagsawa Ruins
The bell tower left standing after the 1814 eruption buried the church, and the classic view of Mayon behind it. The Franciscans built the first church here in 1587, in the town of Cagsawa. Dutch pirates burned it in 1636, and Father Francisco Blanco rebuilt it in 1724.
Mayon erupted on February 1, 1814 and destroyed the church and the town with it. The ruins stand in Barangay Busay in the municipality of Daraga, inside Cagsawa Park, which the Daraga town government and the National Museum of the Philippines look after.
