About Kawit

Philippine independence from Spain was declared in Kawit on June 12, 1898, at the house of Emilio Aguinaldo, which is now the Aguinaldo Shrine. He was born here and ran the town from 1895 to 1897, back when the place was called Cavite el Viejo. Today it is an urban municipality of 123,631 people.
