About Ilocos Norte

The Ilocos empanada comes out orange from achuete, fried crisp, stuffed with longganisa, papaya and an egg, and Batac argues with Vigan about who does it better. Ilocos Norte also has bagnet, the Paoay church built like a fortress, the sand dunes outside Laoag and the wind farm at Bangui. Laoag is the capital, in a province whose politics is hard to discuss without saying the name Marcos.
