Vintar covers more ground than any other municipality in Ilocos Norte, running inland from near Laoag toward the mountains, with about 35,100 people on it. The patron is Saint Nicholas de Tolentino, and the convent beside the church is one of the largest in the province, with Saint Nicholas Academy inside it.
