About Sultan Kudarat

The province carries the name of the 17th century Maguindanao sultan who spent his life keeping the Spanish out of this part of Mindanao, which is a heavier name than most provinces manage. It is rice and corn country, with Isulan as capital and Tacurong the commercial city next door. Tacurong also keeps a bamboo grove where herons and egrets come in to roost by the thousand.
