About Palo

Palo does the work of a capital without being one. Most Region VIII government offices sit here, along with the Archdiocese of Palo, the archbishop's residence and the seminaries, and a new Leyte Provincial Capitol opened in March 2022 that moved the provincial government out of Tacloban, though the law still names Tacloban the capital. It is the most populous municipality in Leyte, 80,291 people.
