Church
Tanauan Church
A parish church first built in 1704 and named for the Assumption of Our Lady. In 1860 it was enlarged with a transept and ringed with a wall and watchtowers, as a defence against pirates. It came through the tidal wave that struck the town in 1897, and it was declared a national historical landmark in 1949. During Typhoon Haiyan in 2013 the people of the town sheltered inside it.
