About Negros Island Region (NIR)

Negros grew rich on sugar in the 19th century and still eats like it: Bacolod is where you go for piaya, napoleones and chicken inasal cooked over coals. The region covers Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental and Siquijor, with Bacolod and Dumaguete sharing the regional centre job. It is also the only region in the country to be created, abolished and created again, in 2015, 2017 and 2024.
