About General Macarthur
Named for the American general who came back through Leyte Gulf in 1944, General MacArthur was carved out of Hernani three years later, in 1947. It took eight barrios with it and has about 14,600 people now, on the Eastern Samar coast. A town across the water in Leyte carries the same name for the same reason.
