About Negros Oriental
Dumaguete calls itself the city of gentle people, runs on Silliman University and sends out silvanas, the frozen cashew meringue sandwiches people carry home by the boxful. Negros Oriental takes the southeastern half of the island, and Apo Island offshore pulls divers from well past the province. The capital is one of two regional centres for the Negros Island Region; Bacolod over the hills is the other.
